COMMUNITY BOOKERS FOR MUSIC aLIVE

About the Program:

Music aLIVE is a project of the non-profit, Whippoorwill Arts. Music aLIVE helps working professional musicians within the Roots genre with guaranteed pay for live local performances and enriches community through free public concerts in non-traditional venues.

This is an organic program run by communities, for communities. Local musicians and community bookers collaborate to arrange live performances that reach underserved communities in their area, in venues like K-12 public schools, hospitals, retirement and elder care centers, etc.

Where You Fit In:

Successful bookers are fans of roots music and passionate about building community. They love the music AND the musicians. Working professional Roots musicians who are interested in becoming more involved with Music aLIVE and their communities are encouraged to apply.

The ideal booker is organized, detail oriented, a good communicator, and has experience booking gigs and working with musicians.

Bookers are paid a small fee per approved booked gig. Bookers may book themselves or their own band/ensemble up to once/month, and will be paid the standard Music aLIVE admin fee paid to band leaders, on top of the guaranteed pay as a musician.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Book gigs for Music aLIVE musicians at non-traditional venues that reach an underserved community, including K-12 public schools, senior centers, children’s hospitals, and more (see our full list of Acceptable Venue Types here)

  • Apply for Music aLIVE funding through our Application form on behalf of the musicians you’re booking

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Monitor status of applications and payments to musicians

  • Recruit Site Liaisons, volunteers who will attend gigs, meet musicians at the venue, and help with logistics (eg, check-in, setup, etc).

  • Attending gigs is not required, but encouraged whenever possible

If you know any community builders or Roots musicians who would be a good fit, please feel free to share this opportunity to get more involved in the Music aLIVE community.
