We have decided to stop using Venmo and Paypal in protest of billionaire interference in our democracy and human rights. Moving forward, 93% of all expenses goes to programs hiring working musicians and nationally advocating for fair pay.

Whippoorwill Arts is a 501c3 non-profit organization on a mission to provide opportunities for roots musicians and artists to thrive and nurture their creativity with a focus on collaboration, fair wages, equity, and social justice.

  • MusicAlive! provides fair guaranteed pay for roots musicians performing for marginalized audiences and in public for free. As of 2025 Music aLIVE has organized over 800 concerts for 37,000 underserved folks, bringing music to the people. We are seeking sponsorship gifts and grants for MusicAlive!

  • Whippoorwill Arts Musician Fellowships, Retreat and Festival honor and award top US-based roots musicians with a cash grant, festival appearance, a fellowship program, and access to future creator grants.

  • Advocacy: We conducted a landmark national Roots Musician Survey in 2021 exposing a music ecosystem rife with inequities and increasing stress and decreasing income streams for working musicians (excluding hobbyists and top 10% of earners). The study findings are launching a series of programs and reforms to address steep inequities in the music ecosystem that harm musicians and their ability to create and survive. Grants for further research, support the publication of the survey findings, and underwrite resulting initiatives are critical. Our focus is on developing ethical, equitable Pay Guidelines for working musicians and expanding the funding options for direct support to musicians.

  • $10,000 funds 50 Music aLIVE musicians or underwrites guaranteed performance pay for 5 gifted musicians featured in our annual Festival.

  • $25,000 funds one spectacularly talented and accomplished musician for a two-year creative project or underwrites the annual Fellow retreat.

  • $50,000 starts a Music aLIVE program in your city or town.
