We are pleased to announce The Shiz Rock will be with us on the 28th. From the soul of the south comes The Shiz, New Orleans conscious, hippie, lesbeaux folk-rock and soul. Lilli Lewis and her wife Liz “The Shiz” Hogan formed The Shiz in 2009 when Liz had been denied employment with a wilderness therapy program in Arizona on the grounds that her marriage was not recognized by that state. Facing the start of an economic crisis after having spent all their savings attempting to relocate for that job, the couple saw forming a rock band as the only reasonable thing to do.
Now a poet who teaches literature at The University of New Orleans, Liz is a self-declared folk artist to the bone with a penchant for silt rivers and old songs in minor keys, Hogan says they found their indie rock alter-ego because “being an artist and being gay in the deep south makes people want to be loud sometimes.” When not playing living rooms and coffee houses with her wife, Lilli, lovingly known as the Folk Rock Diva, is a universal dignity enthusiast turned nationally touring artist spreading the gospel of “practicing radical decency.” Her latest release Americana was an NPR All Songs Considered top 10 pick with her single “Copper John” featured in Rolling Stone as a “Song You Need To Know.” The Shiz’s critically acclaimed Meet You In the Morning is available at https://theshiz.bandcamp.com.
